Teach Us To Pray

December 2020 - February 2021

If prayer really is a powerful way to experience God, we need guidance and new ideas about how to make it genuinely meaningful. In the heart of some difficult days we take an intentional 8-week journey into how to pray, what to pray, when to pray, and the courage to accept God’s answers.

Motivation

Motivation

January 03, 2021
Our primary motivation in prayer isn’t to get God to give us what we want, it’s to surrender our will to His. The reward we get for our prayer is PEACE. And the model prayer offered to us by Jesus in Matt. 6 & Luke 11 is designed to help us pray in a balanced fashion where we begin with worship…with a declaration of God’s greatness, with surrender, and acknowledging our dependence on God’s provision, pardon, and protection.
This is the full service. Sermon begins at 27:56.

Slowing

Slowing

January 10, 2021
If Jesus needed to slow down and seek the Father, how much more do we?! This is a message about having quiet times of stillness and solitude with God. Our response to the invitation of Jesus in Mark 6, where he says “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place.”
This is the full service. Sermon begins at 20:31.

Adoration

Adoration

January 17, 2021
When Jesus modeled prayer, it would appear that adoration or worship of his Heavenly Father was the first order of business.
This is the full service. Sermon begins at 19:29.

Petition

Prayer is a mystery, it’s not a magic wand. We have to remember that God is the one who does the answering. If we ask God for something, we must be willing to accept what He gives. We have to realize that prayer can’t get us everything we want unless the thing we want is right for us to have.
This is the full service. Sermon begins at 24:32.

Serenity

Serenity

February 07, 2021
Do you ever wonder why God doesn't answer our prayer in the way that we wish? Prayer is a mystery, but the bible says that He will give us a peace that transcends all understanding.
This is the full service. Sermon begins at 26:06.

Listening

Listening

February 14, 2021
How do we discern the ‘voice’ of God today? How do we know it’s God speaking and not our own subconscious or the pizza we had last night?
This is the full service. Sermon begins at 29:35.

Confession

Confession

February 21, 2021
Confession is a declaration of responsiblity. We complain to God about our marriages, about our bosses, neighbors, friends, family - Covid and circumstances of all forms. But rarely do we pray 'prayers of responsibility'. Jesus taught about confession in the gospel of Luke.
This is the full service. Sermon begins at 20:50.

Confidence

Confidence

February 28, 2021
How to have a consistent, rather constant prayerful life with the knowledge that prayer is a way to access God's power. God is on the throne and He's able.
This is the full service. Sermon begins at 17:30.
