Hi church family!Forgive the unconventional salutation, but happy Black Friday everyone. Do you where the term ‘Black Friday’ originates? Historians suggest it had nothing to do with shopping. It was label attached to a memorable Friday in 1869 when two powerful investors drove up gold prices causing a market crash. And since it’s 19th century inception, the term has generally been used to describe bad events or negative situations. That is until the 1970’s and 80’s, when retailers began marketing the day after American Thanksgiving as the biggest shopping day of the year. Now it’s officially a ‘thing’ all over the world and all over the internet. A consumption-palooza. Keep your head about you friends! This weekend’s gatherings are a bridge of sorts. Next weekend is the start of Advent with extras planned for kids and families, but before we get there, on Saturday and Sunday we’re wrapping up our Deeply Rooted series with a powerful parable from Jesus (Matthew 7:24-27). The worship experience looks wonderful on paper, and it includes communion, a week earlier than our usual practice. It just felt right to include the Lord’s Table as part of our Sermon on the Mount wrap up weekend. If you’re able to be with us live and in person, come expectantly. And if you’re participating online, have some elements ready.Take care and stay sane today!-Greg HochhalterLead PastorPizza with the PastorIf you are new or feel new - we'd love to have you join us for pizza!
