Fall On Your Face

Postures • Greg Hochhalter
Do you feel scared, confused, hopeless and helpless? The prayer of Jehoshaphat may help you find hope again, as well as deliverance from a God who hears and cares.
In 2 Chronicles, the story of Jehoshaphat is one of military might, weakness, and utter dependence on God. Specifically, it’s the story of the Moabites, Ammonites, and Meunites waging war against Jehoshaphat and his armies. The tide turns against Jehoshaphat and he’s backed into a corner – which causes him to ‘inquire of the Lord’ and proclaim a community wide fast.
The whole story leads to a critical moment, when Jehoshaphat stands in front of the assembly and prays, concluding with these words: “Our God…we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” It's an honest prayer of trust, it's a declaration of dependence and trust in our heavenly Father who's ways are not our ways, and thoughts often not our thoughts.
