Short Term Missions

The Alliance Canada is rooted in being Christ-centred, Spirit-empowered and mission-focused, committed to sharing the Gospel, making disciples, and partnering where the name of Jesus hasn’t yet been heard. We believe everyone has a part to play: some pray, some give, some go. Each role essential.

Why?

When we participate in short-term global mission trips, we are joining God in what He's already doing around the world. When we step outside of our comfort zone and experience other cultures, we gain a bigger vision of God's Kingdom! With humble hearts we go postured to learn, grow, and be challenged to live on greater mission everyday. These trips strengthen global partnerships as we walk alongside local churches and ministries, learning about their local context, and how they're helping bring hope and healing.

We have partnered with For Freedom International because we believe in the work they are doing to fight oppression in Thailand through prevention, intervention, and restoration. In collaboration with social services, they provide training to prevent abuse, help vulnerable children and offer vocational, counselling, and discipleship programs.

What to Expect on the Trip

  • Spend time with the For Freedom international team, visiting their current programs and meeting students and spend time in their classroom setting.
  • Hear from the Thai Leadership team and witness day-to-day ministry life.
  • On Sunday we will attend All Nations Church Phuket, their International Church, and engage with the For Freedom International community.
  • We will be immersed in prayer as we pray over their ministry spaces, and pray over the land they hope to purchase for a new Shelter and Support Center.
  • Enjoy some fun cultural experiences in Phuket (including Phi Phi Islands).

We have a longstanding partnership with For Freedom International in Phuket. We’ve sent multiple teams in the last number of years to support and witness their ministry firsthand. This year presents a unique opportunity: to join a broader Alliance Canada team of leaders traveling together during this timeframe. It’s a chance to strengthen our long-standing relationship with FFI while also connecting with the wider Alliance family as we serve and learn alongside one another.

This trip is designed for adults (18+) who are prepared for the demands of international travel.

Participants should be comfortable with long travel days (including a 16-hour flight) and able to walk significant distances (up to 15,000 steps per day) as part of the experience.

While applications are open to anyone, priority will be given to members and regular attendees of Sherwood Park Alliance Church, as this trip is an extension of our church’s global mission partnerships.

The applications include person information, testimony, travel experience, a health profile, and reference requests. They will take roughly 30-40 minutes to complete and cannot be saved part way.

Applications open September 27, 2025 and close October 19, 2025 by end of day.

There will be a maximum of 12 of us going from Sherwood Park Alliance Church.

We are departing late in the day on Wednesday, January 21st, and returning home sometime on Tuesday, February 2nd. Which is a total of 13 days.

While we don’t have another trip officially planned, we do believe this will be the first of many Global Short Term Missions trips going out of Sherwood Park Alliance Church in the years to come. If you’d like to be added to the list to receive information on future trips, please email Pastor Kiara.

Every short-term team needs prayer! You can support by praying for health, safety, unity, and meaningful encounters with God—both for our team and for those we serve alongside. Pray before, during, and after the trip as we trust God to move in powerful ways.

You can also support financially, helping to cover trip costs and resourcing the ministry partners we serve with. Your partnership through prayer and giving makes you a vital part of the mission!

This trip is not centered on a single hands-on, physical project. Instead, it is designed as an exposure experience—giving us the opportunity to see and better understand the cultural and spiritual realities of a country like Phuket, Thailand.

Our “service” is less about building something tangible and more about building global awareness, deepening compassion, and recognizing the need for Jesus in every corner of the world.
