Psalm 42

Hello church family!

As this update lands in your inbox things are winding up for The Alliance Canada, General Assembly. Wow, what a week. The typical early July vibe in our building is subdued. School’s out, SCA student desks are pushed into the halls, floors are being stripped and waxed, facility operations teams are diving into big projects, roofers are…roofing, while staff offices go quiet as many take well-deserved vacations. But not this week! Over the last 4 days a thousand church leaders filled our space from early morning to late in the evening. We focused on ‘All Things Jesus’ while reconnecting, worshipping, and recommitting to making the world that is more like God intended it to be.

Thank you, so many of you, for stepping up and being part of making all this happen! Dozens of you sacrificed, even taking time off work to host, greet, guide, and direct. As an identifiable leader in our church, I received many ‘thank you for hosting,’ comments. While I was happy to receive the affirmation, I can’t take much credit. A huge ‘way to go’ to the staff teammates who played leading roles, including our fabulous crew of summer interns who served with infectious energy!

Pulling this off took a massive team and so many deserve to be acknowledged…too many for this space. But I do wish to celebrate the unique efforts of Andrea and Cody Priebe. Cody and Andrea assumed point leadership in coordinating the efforts of a vast army of volunteers. They prepared for weeks in advance, and starting Monday morning, they led our hosting teams throughout. It was a privilege to watch them do their thing and to serve under their leadership. Andrea, Cody, you were superb!

Tomorrow night and Sunday morning we’re right back at it as we continue our Summer In the Psalms. This weekend’s focus is the highly identifiable Psalm 42, and we’ll see another micro-film version from our friends at Jason Hildebrand Creative Arts. Jason gave me a bit of a scoop on this week’s featured actor, you’re going to want to hear about it, trust me.

Take care everyone, hope you’ll be with us online or in person this weekend!

Monumental VBS

Parents: Send your kids on a desert adventure! At Monumental VBS, kids celebrate God's greatness! Monumental is filled with awesome Bible-learning experiences kids see, hear, and touch! Sciency-Fun Gizmos™, team-building games, unforgettable Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the standout activities that help faith flow into real life. (Since everything is hands-on, kids might get a little messy. Be sure to send them in play clothes and sturdy shoes.) Plus, we'll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life - something we call God Sightings®.

Get ready to hear that phrase a lot! Your kids will also participate in a hands-on mission project, through a program called Operation Kid-to-Kid™, that will provide school supplies for kids living on reservations. Parents, grandparents, and friends are invited to join us at Canyon Closing each day at 11:30 am, a daily celebration of God's greatness and love! So mark these dates on your calendar: August 22-26, 2022. The fun starts at 9:00 am and will end at noon. Click here to register your children for this life-changing adventure!

Online Ministry Enhancement

The public weekend gathering is no longer the front door - the digital presence and online experience of church is overwhelmingly our first point of connection with the spiritually curious, and an essential method for initiating and fostering discipling relationships within our congregation. Streaming online is more than a broadcast - it's a platform with which to nurture meaningful connections with online viewers.

The hybrid church is the new normal.

To help support this new normal, we are launching an Online Ministry Enhancement campaign. For more information please see spac.ca/online.
